Cascais is the European Youth Capital for the year of 2018.
During the year, the city will work towards the dynamic development of its young people. For that, central issues in focus are youth unemployment, education and qualification, right to build a family and happiness.
The organization explains: “In addition to the events and activities usually carried out throughout the year in Cascais, Cascais 2018 will develop in parallel, and together with its different local and international partners, a series of initiatives in which youth takes the leading role.
“The activities plan covers 13 thematic areas around the main priorities of European and Local youth policies. The central themes of the program include sport, volunteering, employability, the arts, knowledge, structured dialogue, environment, active participation, international mobility, among others.”
Since 2008, cities across Europe have been attributed the title of “European Youth Capital” for the period of a year.
During that time, the chosen city must present a multifaced programme that contemplates the youth dynamic of the city – its cultural, social, politics, and economics.
Such title is expected to promote of the active participation of the Youth people in society and to promote of the city itself.
